Whitney Houston. We all know her for her powerhouse vocals and most of us still get chills when we hear her hit the high notes in “I Will Always Love You” from The Bodyguard soundtrack. However, behind the list of Grammy-winning songs and movie stardom, Whitney Houston also became an addicted drug user who came clean on the Oprah show.
Nobody would have suspected this female superstar to have such a drug habit. Rumors were that she experimented with drugs in her early years, but she claims not until her marriage with Bobby Brown did she become an addicted user. Her soulful chuch upbringing, warm smile, commitment to her daughter and community involvement didn’t give it away. However, once she seperated from Brown the truth came out. Whitney said she would use drugs with Brown and that he was abusive. And although denying crack cocaine use to Diane Sawyer made her famous for her “Crack is Wack” line, she later fessed up to Oprah about the extent of her marijuana and crack cocaine addition in a two-part show special.
Since becoming public with her drug use problems, Whitney has made several trips to drug rehabilitation centers and attempted to re-start her career with the release of the album I Look To You.
Did Whitney Kick the Habit?
Whitney has not kicked the drug use habit according to fans at a 2010 concert in Birmingham’s Arena in the U.K. Whitney reportedly gave such a poor performance, fans left booing the stage and wanting a refund. Some even posted a YouTube video of her horrific performances. A May 2011 entertainment article reported that Whitney Houston was once again entering drug rehab, for a third time. The article quoted Houston’s rep, saying she “voluntarily entered the program to support her long-standing recovery process.”
We’re hope that Whitney can find the same power that made record sales soar once again, except this time apply it to her drug habits so that she can kick it once and for all.
