Former SNL Star Chris Kattan Arrested on Suspicion of DUI

Looks like 43-year-old comedian Chris Kattan isn’t laughing now. The former Saturday Night Live star was arrested early Monday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence after he crashed into a Los Angeles Department of Transportation (DOT) vehicle.

Chris Kattan’s DUI Details

Kattan’s 1 AM drive down San Fernando Valley’s 101 Freeway was dangerous from the start. Many of his fellow drivers noticed his erratic driving and reported this to police. Kattan was witnessed weaving in and out of traffic lanes at slow speeds. Then his car veered off into a closed stretch of the highway, eventually striking the DOT vehicle.

What was Chris Kattan on when he was arrested?

Luckily, no one was injured in the accident, as the DOT crew was performing maintenance on a nearby guardrail. But Kattan was still taken into custody on suspicion of DUI. Tests later revealed that he was on prescription pills at the time of his arrest.

Kattan’s defense

In defense of his actions, Kattan explained that he was just returning from a 15-hour flight and was addled due to exhaustion. Yet he also admitted to driving under the influence of his prescription medication. Plus, reports say that Kattan was also exhibiting strange behavior on his flight earlier in the evening.

Driving on prescription pills: still a DUI

Kattan’s arrest is a good reminder that driving under the influence of medications, even when they are legally prescribed, is still a DUI. Kattan and all those on the highway are lucky that his impaired driving didn’t result in any injuries or fatalities.
