Ryan Lochte’s Drunken Mishap Leads to Sponorship Exits

If the public wasn’t talking about the Olympics and a swimmer’s speedo, they were busy talking about Ryan Lochte and his fall from grace in Rio. All of the negative press caused many of the Olympic swimmer’s sponsorships to jump ship. Not wanting to tarnish their names with a Ryan Lochte scandal, they parted ways, leaving the Olympian and his speedo behind.

Companies, Speedo, Polo Ralph Lauren, Gentle Hair Remover, and Airweave, announced they would no longer have anything to do with Ryan Lochte following the 2016 Rio Olympics. The champion swimmer and his teammates were caught vandalizing a gas station and urinating on a building while drunk. To cover up their behavior following the Olympics, Ryan Lochte stated that he and his friends were robbed at gunpoint.

Once the truth came to light, the Olympian was no longer celebrated as an Olympics athlete. He was then criticized for his bad judgment and ability to lie about what really had happened. Speedo and other companies sponsoring Ryan Lochte decided they didn’t want bad publicity, so they took matters into their own hands and severed ties with the young man.
