No Way? Buzz Lightyear?
Tim Allen has come a long way in a short amount of time. The actor/comedian starred as the TV host and professional screw-up Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor on “Home Improvement” for eight years. When he wasn’t The Tool Man, he was the reluctant Santa Claus, but everyone knows Tim’s voice from “Toy Story” as the super duper action figure, Buzz Lightyear. It wasn’t always memorable TV and movie characters for Tim though. Tim can count his blessings after his drug use could have prevented all of it.
In 1978, then 25-year-old Tim Allen was when arrested for possession of 1.4 pounds of cocaine, a felony. After a plea deal was made, Allen’s potential life sentence was brought down to three to seven years. After just 28 months in prison Allen was released and returned home to begin his career as a stand up comic. (source)
His stand up took to new heights and in 1991 Tim hit it big with his aforementioned ABC sitcom.
Can you imagine? This is one talented comedian who has brought a lot of smiles and a lot of laughs with his characters. Without a plea deal, drug use could have ruined this guy’s entire existence, and potentially torn his family apart. It isn’t just lives that drugs affect. It’s potential. Tim Allen was bursting with it, and luckily for him drug use didn’t end it. He’s since been married twice and had two kids. He’s turned his life around, and that’s something that Tim, his family, and all Space Ranger fans can be thankful for.
