Matthew Perry Discusses His Alcoholism

Matthew Perry has never shied away from discussing his struggles with addiction before, being quite vocal about his past with alcohol and his views on rehabilitation.

Perry recently accepted an award from the nonprofit rehabilitation organization, Phoenix House.

During his struggles with addiction, which coincided with his tenure on NBC’s wildly popular sitcom Friends, Perry sought treatment at Phoenix House. Now, he is happy to help others who are also struggling with alcoholism.

He says that one-on-one interaction is one of the best ways to help an addict overcome their struggles.

“When you’re having a bad day, the best thing you can do is call somebody and ask them how they’re doing,” Perry said, “and actually pay attention and listen to the answer to get out of your own head.”

Fortunately, it seems the actor has successfully kept his addiction at bay. We wish him continued success and applaud his involvement in helping other addicts cope!
