Living With an Alcohol Addict: Real Housewives of New York’s Ramona Singer

An upcoming episode of Real Housewives of New York reveals details from star Ramona Singer’s past.

During a trip to the Berkshires, Singer reportedly had a breakdown as she recalled memories about abuse suffered at the hand of her alcoholic father.

Ramona Singer’s Childhood Experiences With Her Father’s Alcoholism

Singer’s sister, Sonya Mazur, confirmed Singer’s story, explaining that their father’s alcoholism led to verbal abuse toward her and her sister and physical abuse toward her mother.

In the past, Singer has stated that she felt her father moved the family to the country so “the neighbors couldn’t hear” when he abused her mother. Mazur echoed this, saying their father would often throw plates, knives, and glasses across the room.

Will Her Father’s Past Dictate Her Future?

While Singer has expressed some concern that her Real Housewives antics, including throwing a glass of wine at co-star Kristen Taekman, could indicate that she has similar habits as her father, Mazur asserts that Singer shouldn’t worry about slipping into his tendencies.

Mazur, however, has felt the repercussions of their father’s alcoholism and abuse more fully, stating it led to her own addictions to cocaine and alcohol. Fortunately, by attending Alcoholics Anonymous and therapy sessions, Mazur has recovered.

Problem With Drug or Alcohol Addiction?

Clearly, drug and alcohol addiction can have a huge impact on not just the addict, but their whole family, even decades later. If you or someone you know is suffering from addiction, ARCpoint Labs provides drug and alcohol testing, a necessary first step in treating the problem.
