Celebrities in Rehab: a 2013 Review

As the year comes to a close, we’re reviewing some of the notable famous faces who have entered rehab to seek help for drug or alcohol addictions.

Celebrity Rehab Stints: 2013 in Review

Zac Efron’s Cocaine Abuse

Former High School Musical star Zac Efron struggled with cocaine abuse and checked into rehab earlier this year. His entrance was relatively quiet, as the press only found out about his stint 5 months after he successfully completed his program.

Farrah Abraham Kicked Out of Alcohol Abuse Program

The reality star known for her roles on MTV’s 16 & Pregnant and Teen Mom was kicked out of her 10-day outpatient program for alcohol abuse just 2 days shy of completion for disrupting other patients’ stays. She was arrested in March 2013 after blowing a 0.147 (the legal limit is 0.8).

Phillip Seymour Hoffman Relapses

Oscar winner Phillip Seymour Hoffman was sober for 23 years before relapsing in 2012. In May 2013, he checked into a 10-day substance abuse program to combat his drug addiction.

Cory Monteith’s Rehab & Tragic Death

In March 2013, Glee fans were shocked when star Cory Monteith checked into rehab for substance abuse, which he also struggled with as a teenager. Tragically, Cory’s fight against drug addiction concluded in July 2013 when he died of a toxic combination of herion and alcohol.

“The Situation” Seeks Treatment

Known for his time on MTV’s Jersey Shore, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino decided in 2013 that the party was finally over. He checked into Utah’s Cirque Lodge to undergo treatment for drug and alcohol addiction.

Lindsay Lohan Sentenced to Rehab (Again)

Troubled child starlet Lindsay Lohan was sentenced to 90 days of rehab in March 2013 — a requirement that echoed her July 2010 sentence and marked her sixth time in rehab. Lohan’s sentence came after she pled no contest to charges filed after a June 2012 car accident. She was released in July 2013.

We applaud these stars for seeking  help, though some were more successful than others. Hopefully 2014 will see more people that struggle with substance abuse, famous or not, receive the treatment they need.
